Case Overview

This case involves extremely serious allegations of conspiracy to murder and attempted murder involving the use of a sawn-off shotgun. Our client is one of five individuals arrested and charged in connection with the incident. The defendant faces charges of conspiracy to murder, conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life, and related motoring offences. He remains in custody awaiting trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

Situation

The case began after police received reports of a shooting in Birmingham. The victim was shot while sitting in his vehicle on his driveway, moments after returning from the school run. A vehicle pulled alongside, and a gunman opened fire twice with a sawn-off shotgun.

When the victim got out of his car, the gunman also exited, reloaded the weapon, and pursued the victim on foot around the driveway. The gunman discharged the firearm again, causing further injury, before firing a fourth and final shot and leaving the scene. The victim suffered serious injuries requiring hospital treatment and surgery. Police subsequently arrested five individuals, including our client.

Charges

The defendant faces four charges:

  • Conspiracy to Murder – Conspiring with others to kill the victim.
  • Conspiracy to Possess a Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life – Conspiring with others in relation to firearms used with intent to endanger life.
  • Driving While Disqualified – Driving a motor vehicle while disqualified from doing so.
  • Use of a Motor Vehicle on a Public Place Without Insurance – Operating a motor vehicle without the required insurance.

These are exceptionally serious charges that carry significant maximum sentences upon conviction.
