Understand Your Situation

Information on the availability of Legal Aid for family matters involving domestic abuse, child protection, or specific financial hardship.

Legal Aid is public funding provided by the government to help with the costs of legal advice and representation. In family law, it is no longer available for most standard divorces or child disputes. However, it remains a critical right for cases involving domestic abuse, where a child is at risk of being taken into care, or in cases of international child abduction.

Legislation & Rights

A confidential discussion provides clarity on the current Legal Aid criteria and identifies if a specific situation meets the government's requirements.

Plan Your Defence

To qualify, an individual must pass a 'means' test (based on income and savings) and a 'merits' test (the legal strength of the case). Evidence, such as police reports or GP letters, is usually required for domestic abuse cases. Legal solicitors can help guide individuals through the assessment process. If a case does not qualify for Legal Aid, other funding options or payment plans are usually discussed during the initial consultation.

Defence & Evidence

Expert guidance ensures that the means and merits assessments are handled correctly to determine eligibility for public funding.

Legal Aid Availability

For many criminal matters, from police station interviews to Crown Court trials, public funding (Legal Aid) may be available to cover your legal costs.

Eligibility is determined by the seriousness of the case and, in some instances, a means assessment. Our team will conduct an immediate, confidential assessment of your eligibility to ensure that financial constraints do not stand in the way of a robust defence.
