Indecent Images (Category A)

Understand Your Situation

Category A images are the most serious classification. Immediate specialist legal advice is essential to navigate this crisis.

Defending Category A Allegations

Category A involves the most explicit material. Possession alone can lead to prison, but 'Making' (downloading) or 'Distributing' is treated even more harshly. Police will seize all devices and look for evidence of sharing.

We employ independent forensic experts to re-examine the devices. We check if the images were downloaded automatically (pop-ups), or if they have been wrongly categorised. Police graders often make mistakes, classifying Category B or C images as Category A. Downgrading the category is a primary strategy to reduce the sentence.

Plan Your Defence

The 'Making' Charge

You can be charged with 'Making' simply for downloading an image. This sounds like production, but legally it just means creating a digital copy.

We challenge the scale. If there are only a few images, or they are cache files you didn't know existed, we argue against the 'making' charge. We also prepare extensive mitigation regarding your personal circumstances to argue for a Suspended Sentence Order rather than immediate custody.

Avoid Prison?

We fight for suspended sentences in Category A cases.

Legal Aid Availability

For many criminal matters, from police station interviews to Crown Court trials, public funding (Legal Aid) may be available to cover your legal costs.

Eligibility is determined by the seriousness of the case and, in some instances, a means assessment. Our team will conduct an immediate, confidential assessment of your eligibility to ensure that financial constraints do not stand in the way of a robust defence.
